Today the symbols and culture of Judaism and Christianity can be seen side by side in Jerusalem. While followers of Christ naturally honor the history of the nation that gave them their Bible and Savior, many no longer see Israel as having a future in God's plan for the world. Instead much of Christendom sees the nation of Israel replaced by followers of Christ and His Church. What are God's purposes for Israel and the Church? From Jerusalem a conversation with Mart DeHaan and professor of Jewish Studies, Dr. Michael Rydelnik.

Why does Israel, one of the smallest nations in the world, continue to get more than her share of daily headlines? Some believe that the international attention on the land of the Bible is because the Jewish people have been chosen by God to live in this Promised Land. The Lord did not set his love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but, because the Lord loves you, and because he would keep the oath which he swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Therefore know that the Lord your God, he is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant with those who love him and keep his commandments; and he repays those who hate him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates him; he will repay him to his face. Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them” (Deuteronomy 7:6-11).
IDEA: God deals lovingly with His people as they show their love to God by their obedience.

A Weekend in Jerusalem
It’s Friday in Jerusalem—the holiest day of the week for Muslim worshipers, many who are making their way to the Al Aqsa Mosque for prayers. Meanwhile, Jewish storeowners close up shop and begin preparations for their day of rest and worship beginning at sundown—the Saturday Shabbat. On Sunday morning, as most of the city goes back to work, the bells of Christian churches ring across Jerusalem for a third group of people who also find their spiritual roots in this holy city.
