    Israel & The Church

Today the symbols and culture of Judaism and Christianity can be seen side by side in Jerusalem. While followers of Christ naturally honor the history of the nation that gave them their Bible and Savior, many no longer see Israel as having a future in God's plan for the world. Instead much of Christendom sees the nation of Israel replaced by followers of Christ and His Church. What are God's purposes for Israel and the Church? From Jerusalem a conversation with Mart DeHaan and professor of Jewish Studies, Dr. Michael Rydelnik.

    Israel: The Chosen People

Why does Israel, one of the smallest nations in the world, continue to get more than her share of daily headlines? Some believe that the international attention on the land of the Bible is because the Jewish people have been chosen by God to live in this Promised Land. But why would God choose one nation at the expense of its neighbors? And how could one specific “chosen people” represent a God who is supposed to be a God for all nations? Join hosts Mart DeHaan and Jimmy DeYoung as they seek to understand the significance of “Israel: The Chosen People.”

Israel’s Road Map to Peace, Part I

World leaders have spent countless hours in an effort to bring about a comprehensive peace in the land of the Bible, modern Israel. The United States, the United Nations, the European Union, and even Russia—the so-called quartet—have expended effort to try to bring peace between the Jewish and Arab peoples of this region, and yet without success. From the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem, hosts Mart DeHaan and Jimmy DeYoung talk about the struggle for peace in the Middle East. Discover “Israel’s Road Map to Peace,” Part 1.

Israel’s Road Map to Peace, Part II

There’s irony in the history of Israel. Here prophets of God reminded a chosen people that security and peace come not from military strength or international relationships, but from the Lord. Here sons of Israel echoed Moses, who taught a nation to care not only for the stranger among them, but to love their enemies as well. But in spite of the calls for peace and justice that have echoed through this country for centuries, modern Israel remains a focal point of ethnic, religious, and cultural conflict. Israel: Crossroads of Eternity, Part I: Why Israel Can't Be Ignored

Israel: One of the most ancient, yet technically advanced, and smallest nations in the world. Day after day, Israel receives more than her share of headlines on the front pages of newspapers around the world, yet is still waiting, edging ever closer to her predicted destiny, at the Crossroads of Eternity.

Israel: Crossroads of Eternity, Part II

The busy, modern streets of Tel Aviv, Israel, less than an hour drive from the ancient walls of Jerusalem, and only a few blocks from a Mediterranean harbor, are linked to one of the most important fish stories ever told—a fish story that helps us to see beneath the surface of the conflict in the region because Israel sits at the Crossroads of Eternity.

What it means to be “called” by God, and to have Him working in and through you

    Wednesday, July 25, 2012

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another” (John 15:16-17).

IDEA: Being chosen by God carries reciprocal responsibilities.

PURPOSE: To help listeners think about what it means to be one of God’s “chosen people.”

How the chosen people of Israel impact our world and faith

    Tuesday, July 24, 2012, Part 2

“You are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. The Lord did not set his love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but, because the Lord loves you, and because he would keep the oath which he swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Therefore know that the Lord your God, he is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant with those who love him and keep his commandments; and he repays those who hate him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates him; he will repay him to his face. Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them” (Deuteronomy 7:6-11).

IDEA: God deals lovingly with His people as they show their love to God by their obedience.

PURPOSE: To help listeners understand the extent and the limits of being God’s chosen people.

    Settlements, Part I

How could a senior citizen choir of Russian immigrants be part of what some consider a major obstacle to peace in the Middle East? Dotting the landscape of this Holy Land are the new outposts of an ancient conflict. Jewish Settlements have become a flashpoint in the struggle for control over territory claimed by both Israeli and Palestinian people. Communities of Peace—or Conflict?

    A Weekend in Jerusalem

It’s Friday in Jerusalem—the holiest day of the week for Muslim worshipers, many who are making their way to the Al Aqsa Mosque for prayers. Meanwhile, Jewish storeowners close up shop and begin preparations for their day of rest and worship beginning at sundown—the Saturday Shabbat. On Sunday morning, as most of the city goes back to work, the bells of Christian churches ring across Jerusalem for a third group of people who also find their spiritual roots in this holy city. Three religions, three stories of worship, as told in “A Weekend in Jerusalem.”
